Stan Getz 

His idol was Lester Young 

Started in 1940s with Woody Herman's big band. 

 "one of the all-time great tenor saxophonists". 

Known for popularizing "Bossa Nova" which is a style of Brazilian music. 

Parents were Ukrainian Jews. 

Family lived in NYC. 

Went to James Monroe High School in the Bronx, then All City High School Orchestra of New York City. 

When 16, accepted to Jack Teagarden's band. He played with Nat King Cole and Lionel Hampton. 

He played for Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman. He was a soloist for Woody Herman in "The Second Herd". 

He was known as one of "The Four Brothers".
