Some thoughts on what makes humans unique.

I think a unique faculty of humans amongst the animals is their ability to ask "why?". one may be tempted to look at a crayfish and wonder: what possible reason does it have for living? How does it justify it's existence? The reality is that it doesn't. It doesn't have the mental faculty to do so. We may project our abilities and introspective ponderings onto it, but it does not posses them. In fact, I don't believe that we have any more reason to exist than the crayfish. One species does not serve another; they just are. I don't believe we are any different from the crayfish with the exception of being able to question our purpose and that of others. But being able to question does not provide us with any more purpose.
