I was so impressed by this professor I just had to send him an email when I dropped his class.

Dear Dr. Meier,

I’m Joe Puccio, a junior Math and Computer Science major in your PLCY 340 class. I’m writing to let you know that I’ll be dropping your course. I know it’s not necessary for me to inform you of this, but as a sign of respect, I wanted to tell you. Your lectures were very engaging and your humor was refreshing, but unfortunately I’m unable to handle the workload on top of the Math and CS classes I’m taking this semester. I thought it was remarkable that you learned our names and faces before the first day of class, and I think it was a fantastic way to encourage student engagement. I’ll always remember the lectures I attended fondly. Please continue teaching as you do now; there will always be at least one person in the audience who really appreciates it.
To hell with “Bryan”,
Joe

Dear Joe,
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful note. I am sorry to lose you in the class but hope that the past few days were helpful to your future.
Keep pushing ahead, Professor Meier
