Number 1 and 2 (PETE and HDPE) are usually recyclable. 
3-7 are often not. Less than 5% actually are recycled. 

1: water and soda bottles
2: often for detergent and shampoo 
3-7: plastic bags, cups, pouches, etc.
7 is everything else

Definitely should keep recycling paper, cardboard, and aluminum cans.
