Computer Skills:

Java Programming

I’m a high school junior at Woods Charter School with an ardent interest in Science and Mathematics. I’m applying for a summer research internship so that I may apply my knowledge of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to solve problems in and to explore Neuroscience and Genetics, although I’m very open to other applications of Mathematics and Physics. At Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics I learned how to work collaboratively for a scientific goal, how to perform rigorous scientific experimentation, and how to conduct myself in a lab. I’ve previously used my knowledge of Calculus and Physics to independently model physical systems and networks using computer programming. I believe this experience, combined with my compulsory research of topics I’m interested in, will allow me to greatly contribute to your research.

I’m planning to major in engineering and would benefit greatly from more experience.

I am a high school junior at Woods Charter School in Chapel Hill, NC. I am passionately interested in many topics within Science and Mathematics. I am applying to the NIH Summer Internship Program to gain practical real-life experience working in a world-renowned scientific facility and so that I may apply my knowledge of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to help solve problems in areas of Neuroscience and Genetics.

Last summer, at Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics at UNC-Wilmington, I learned how to work collaboratively on a scientific project, how to perform rigorous scientific experimentation, and how to conduct myself in a lab. Additionally, I have used my knowledge of Calculus and Physics to independently model physical systems and networks using computer programming. I believe this experience, combined with my enthusiastic research of topics I am interested in, will allow me to greatly contribute to one of your projects.

If I am accepted into your program, I will bring my energy, enthusiasm, and intellect, and you will be providing this budding young scientist with an invaluable summer experience.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Joe Puccio
