Back in the days when I thought California was the promise land.
read moreHey Jake,
Well, there comes a time in everyone’s life when they realize they have to go to California. That time is approaching for me, hopefully.
Tara and I are looking to go out of NC next summer for internships and San Francisco is one of our target cities. I've got a few leads so far (Microsoft's shipping me out for final round interviews and I've got an interview with Palantir tomorrow), but Tara has yet to pin down a company to pursue. I was wondering if you had suggestions of places that she could look into. She's currently trying to find a startup or company that does something philanthropic/charity-like, but she's also open to finance or consulting.
Do you have any companies that come to mind, or people you would recommend talking to?
As for her background, she's doing Math and Physics at Harvard and has some experience in programming, too. Hope all is well with you, my friend, and I would really appreciate your thoughts.
Joe
Hey Joe,
Great to hear from you and very excited you'll be out in SF next summer! It's the place to be :)

Happy to help Tara get something lined up. Mind shooting me her resume? I have a few thoughts but want to see her resume before I reach out. A few quick questions:
- is she mainly interested in a software companies? Or literally anything?
- what level of programming has she done and is it front end or back end?
- what months would you guys be out here (assuming you got your internship)? - is it okay if it's unpaid?
Neat that you're interviewing at Palantir. What's the role you're looking at? One of my best friends here works at Palantir and I would be happy to have him put in a good word for you if you'd like.
I hope all is well for you back at UNC.
