The internet levels all those who use it; that’s why it’s so appealing. If you’re browsing a forum, you’re reading every post. In a real life parallel, you wouldn’t do so. If you were to be walking by a group of people talking, you would decide who to listen to by appearance, tone, attractiveness, etc. Everyone starts out equal on the internet and any inequality does not permeate URL barriers (ie if you’re notorious on one site, it likely does not exist for you on any other site).
