If you want to know if the class is all right with the pace of reading, what you need to do is set the pace to your lowest acceptable speed, then ask if it’s too slow. This way those students that are compelled to speak up are less inhibited as they would be demonstrating their ability to handle the material rather than exposing an inability (which would be setting a faster pace and asking the students if it’s too fast).
