I would make Tara her tea every so often, and she was pretty particular about it, so I wanted to make sure I got it right each time (I almost always got the amount of milk wrong).

Making chai 

Use the smallest pot. 

Fill up a teacup with water up to about one pinky finger segment below the rim (to allow for milk). 

Put on high to boil the water. 

Once boiled, put in a little bit more than one full teaspoon of tea (the pink teaspoon) in the water, then turn it on low (4) for 20-25 seconds. 

Then turn it off, cover it, and let it steep for 2 minutes. 

You don’t want it to be black. 

Put a teaspoon of sugar in her cup. Then rest the tea strainer on the cup, then pour the tea into the strainer, then mix the sugar in. 

Then put a couple dollops of milk in, a little darker than her skin tone.
