Frankly, the keyboard wasn't the only thing fucked with the 2016 MacBook Pros. I went through 6 replacements before I just said fuck it and kept the first one I got because it had the best quality control. One of two things are going on at Apple: they don't give a shit about quality control anymore because they're focused too much on their stock price/making money (given the way they handled the whole 2016-2019 keyboards, this seems somewhat likely) or they literally just can't see the quality control issues anymore because Jobs is gone.

Just listen to your fucking customers Apple, jesus. Do what's right, don't try to cover up the truth, because the truth always ends up uncovering itself. You're just wasting time, money, and people's goodwill by trying to cover up the truth. The only thing you can hope to do by covering up the truth is bury it well enough that it doesn't come out before you die, but companies these days live a hell of a lot longer than humans. You fucked up the keyboards, and some of us could tell they were fucked within the first 30 minutes of using the machine. And it takes you 3 fucking years to correct course? No ship takes 3 years to turn. Frankly, Apple's probably going to die. It's probably going to take a couple decades because they have so much money, but unless they find a new Jobs (they're out there, you just need to know where to look), or they start listening to the people who see the world the same way he did (ahem, the artists at your company, not the fucking business people, not the engineers), then they're going to die. The artists are going to leave, and it's going to show in your products, which is going to attract fewer artists to Apple, and there lies the positive feedback loop, the hallmark of all disease. It's sad, because I'm not sure what computers/phones I'm going to buy when they do.

P.S. Hi Marco, John, and Casey

Things to check on 2016 MacBook Pros.

For reproducing the clicks: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2016-macbook-pro-issue-high-pitched-keyboard-clicking-sound.2022399/page-11#post-24213540

Dad's computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Not really, near the center is a more hollow, louder sound, while the right and left is softer. The space bar is also pretty darn loud.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? At first, no. Heat didn’t active. What activated was pressing each key with a little pressure, that caused the 9 to start. Has not gone away yet.

Is there a scratch near the speaker? YES

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? No, looks good. Checked on black, and white, and gray.

When moving hand over the case when plugged in, do you feel the reverberation? yes. Goes away when unplugged? yes. That was without the extension. With the extension: no, completely goes away.

Joe’s second computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Pretty much. There is a slight difference between the middle and the sides I’d say, but not that significant.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? No. Could not reproduce at all.

Is there a scratch near the speaker? Yes, but it’s a lot more slight than the one on dad’s.

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? Yes. Also no dead pixels.

Manufactured: 1-9-2017

Joe's third computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Yes, pretty much. Not really any difference between second computer at all. Maybe some difference between dad's now on the center keys, but not much.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? Yes, could definitely reproduce on the 5 key. Heated it up. Didn't even have to press hard. Just after heating. The G key did it a bit after just doing 10 tries, but it's harder to reproduce. After going through and doing the hard press, the "7" key also made a few clicks. Not as bad as "5".

Is there a scratch near the speaker? Yes, it looked worse than dad's at first, but it started to rub away it seemed or disappear after running with finger. Perhaps it was an imperfection with the grain? Wiping it with some water/saliva and cleaning it reveals it again, pretty much as bad as it was.

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? No, looks good on black, white (maybe you could see a blue tinge on the bottom right, but probably not), and on grey yeah maybe there's a slight blue tint on the bottom left. Seems different than second computer in that regard. There are no white splotches on each corner when the screen is black and brightness is full.

Manufactured: 1-30-17.

Joe's fourth computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Yes, pretty much. Maybe even slightly quieter, but good either way. Could be less of a difference between the center keys and the outer keys.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? Tried going through and pressing (not hot) 5 times, and could not produce. Now heating up 10 minutes. Couldn't produce after heating up for 10 minutes and even after pressing hard on each key. Okay, after a while heating up and cranking the CPU and GPU, have been able to produce on the F key a couple of times, maybe 1/20 presses, and it came up on the K key after a little bit too. Got it on the 'O' too (once). Might be acceptable level of clicking.

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? Exact same report as third computer. But seems like second computer has blue tinges too.

Is there a scratch near the speaker? Not that I can tell, no.

Touch ID button feel firm? Yes, feels a bit firmer than current computer.

Manufactured: 2-20-17.

Joe's fifth computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Yes, pretty much.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? Didn't get to try the key click. Scratch ended tests early.

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? Didn't get a chance to check.

Is there a scratch near the speaker? Yes, very noticeable. Worse than pretty much any previous machine. Included in email to apple store guy.

Touch ID button feel firm? Not really, no. Maybe a tiny bit firmer but not noticeable. Worse than fourth computer, I'd say.

Manufactured: unknown.

Joe's sixth computer:

Do all the keys sound good. Uniform sound? Yes.

When hot, do certain keys make a click? Yes, was able to produce on the 7 key after heating up. Very consistent, probably >80% of presses.

Does the screen look uniform when a white blank screen is displayed? Not checking.

Is there a scratch near the speaker? Yes, very noticeable. Would be grounds for replacement.

Touch ID button feel firm? Yes, it is firmer than the current machine.

Manufactured: 03-09.
